Tommie F. Brown International Academy, International Baccalaureate World School is a downtown work-site magnet school located in the heart of downtown Chattanooga near the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. As an International Baccalaureate World School , or IB, we offer a rigorous curriculum that develops the whole child: physically, intellectually, emotionally, ethically. We nurture the students desire to learn through inquiry based instruction. The International Baccalaureate Program is a national accreditation which requires our teachers and staff members to attain specific levels of training and professional development which is supported through our partnership with the Benwood Initiative through the Public Education Foundation.
Tommie F. Brown International Academy, IB World School opened its doors to students in 2002 and received the addition of "International" to its name in July 2010. Authorized in June 2010, we became the first International Baccaluareate Primary Years Programme in the state of Tennessee. At BIA, students have a wide variety of learning experiences. We offer students the iPortal language lab, a mobile computer lab, and a school library media center with an extensive collection for students and teachers. Students regularly attend the library, language lab (Rosetta Stone), visual art, music, physical education, and Spanish classes. Through a partnership with the University of Tennessee we offer on site training for UTC education majors (PDS Program) and PAWS, a mentoring program which prepares students for college. We are proudly supported by First Christian Church which offers weekly after school learning communities for students in grades 3-5 for enrichment activities. Students are encouraged to participate in a variety of ways which include before, during and after school such as: Ms. Donna's Book Club (sponsored by Read Aloud Chattanooga), The WBIA Student News Crew, International Studies Club, various math, science, and reading tutoring, an after school writing club with Ms. Donna, the Science Olympiad, and our very own IBOTS or TVA's Robtoics program.
